iMovo and MCAST Collaborate in Setting up an Educational Partnership

Mcast and iMovo signing memorandum of Understanding

The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with iMovo, a leading Business Intelligence (BI) and Customer Experience Management (CEM) company.

The agreement will see both parties collaborate to set up an educational partnership aimed at promoting the skills and concepts of analytics, business intelligence and big data – all areas that have been recognised as emerging trends in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) this decade.

The agreement aims to address the Malta perspective of the growing global demand for skills in these areas by providing MCAST students and staff with access to some of the leading analytics technology available in the market today, namely Tableau, which is developed by Tableau Software.

Tableau Software is a leading global business intelligence and analytics software vendor, which makes breakthrough products that change the way people see, understand and use data by enabling quick analysis, visualisation and sharing of information. The company was acknowledged as the market leader the Gartner Group, a leading industry analyst organisation, in its latest report about the business intelligence industry. Tableau was most strongly positioned in Gartner’s magic quadrant as a leader in data discovery and visualisation.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr Pierre Mallia, iMovo Managing Director said “Analytics has become central to the way leading organisations plan nowadays. In years gone by, analytics was the preserve of large organisations. However this is changing and today we see small organisations using data discovery tools like Tableau and QlikView. Our industry is being faced with a significant shortage of personnel skilled in analytics and this is exacerbated by the absence of specialised formal educational programmes to address this skill shortage locally. We hope that this partnership will help MCAST realise this potential and generate graduates in this sphere.”

Dr De Bono, President of the MCAST Board of Governors, thanked iMovo for choosing to collaborate with MCAST. He stated that the College is continuously working closely with industry to ensure that all courses offered are relevant to their needs. “iMovo’s contribution to the committees that have been set up to evaluate the content of the courses will ensure that the ICT courses are kept up-to-date with the new industry trends”. He concluded by stressing that the College doors are always open to industry for the benefit of the student.
